Forgetting is the essence of the thing,
the golden shore a memory that dims
within the guise of self-restricted sight.
But darkness is the pawn of sacred light,
employed to mask the truth that hides within.

The Memory of Light

Poems for the Soul’s Journey

Book 4 of The Light Poetry Series

Keith Wrassmann

In The Memory of Light, the fourth installment in The Light Poetry Series, these poems move through the quiet terrain of human experience—where love and loss, fear and hope, forgetting and discovery all unfold together. This collection explores what it means to live in a world where clarity feels distant and identity feels fragmented—yet something within continues to search, to question, to remember. Each poem is a place to pause—a space where the noise softens and something familiar begins to return. Life in the forgetting is a journey through the unfolding of experience, the remembering of who you are, and have always been.

These poems are for the journey of the soul, in the fear and courage of living, in loving and losing, for grieving and healing, for questions of what is beyond the bounds of human sight, to see through the darkness and the depth of suffering, until the inner self remembers its nature and awakens in the memory of light.

But it was the touch of another’s hand
that brought forth the feeling of union,
a memory of light triggered
in the dimness of the forgetting,
a partial recollection of the oneness
retained within the illusion,
because the essence of the one
cannot be completely veiled.

You are in the world
where the golden light has dimmed,
where all remembrance of who you are
has faded to the blackness of new night.
But this is not a darkness without sight,
for light is light
even in its slowest hue.

Writings on God and Verse

Two of Keith’s favorite topics are theology and poetry.

Theologia is a blog devoted to examining questions and concepts related to the doctrine and practice of Christianity as found in the Bible. Keith puts his Master of Divinity in Theology to work as he dives into a variety of topics in the hope of discovering a little more about God and ourselves.

Story in Verse is the official blog of Narrative Light Press which is devoted to the resurgence of formal narrative poetry in the modern age. Keith discusses a variety of subjects including formal narrative poetry’s current place in our culture and its potential to uplift and illuminate the human spirit.

I will echoed through the timeless void
before it slowed enough
to take a form.
Its intention was unparalleled
and pregnant with eternal possibility—
the highest joy,
the lowest sorrow,
fortune and tragedy—
within the brush mark of a single stroke.
